The fall softball schedule has been released; our first game will be this Friday, September 17th versus "Glory". The complete schedule (and eventually scores and standings) can be found here. Note that "FBCR" is the singles team, while "Richardson First Baptist" is the married couples softball team.

The rumors of this site's demise are simply untrue, though the rumors of widespread disinterest may have merit. The good news is
- Robyn Bush has been keeping the calendar page up-to-date with High Impact events, and some events of broader interest.
- There are some not-so-old pictures in the photo gallery that not everyone may have noticed; particularly Jeff Howard's pictures of the FBCR softball team. Jeff has given me more that aren't up yet, and I fully intend to post them someday.
- I have a newer version of the scripts that run this site (see the Geeklog project) nearly ready to go over on the beta page, and once I get that installed here on the real page it will be much easier for me to make future updates because mumble mumble version control mumble automated installer script mumble…
The bad news is
- For the time being it is still necessary to log in before you can see class-specific calendar events and announcements. If you are in High Impact and do not see 3 Lunch Bunch events on the August page of the calendar, then you probably aren't logged in. This means you need to either log in or get an account or get your password mailed to you if you have an account and forgot the password. If you have forgotten you user name then feel free to mail me and I'll try to help you figure it out. The other possibility is that your preferences are set to filter out High Impact events; go here to change them.
- The upgraded scripts I mentioned do not yet include a photo gallery; installing one isn't too hard, but transferring all the existing albums will be a bit of a chore, so when we do upgrade we may lose our existing albums for a while.
- While I prefer to work on the scripting side of this site, hardly anyone has ever expressed interest in helping post news and announcements. Robyn's efforts with the calendar page have been a welcome development, but it would help even more if a few other folks would pitch in by posting announcements, news or an occasional topic for discussion. You don't need to ask for permission, just go to the submission page and start typing.
So that's the status of things. I hope I cleared up some confusion and dropped some helpful information along the way. By the way, it'd be great if someone would coerce Tracy into copying and pasting his weekly Crosswalk devotionals to the site.

Earl Nightingale said, "A young man once asked a great and famous older man, 'How can I make a name for myself in the world and become successful?' The great and famous man replied: 'You have only to decide upon what it is you want and then stay with it, never deviating from your course no matter how long it takes, or how rough the road, until you have accomplished it.'" Winners simply do what losers don't want to do. Success is largly a matter of holding on after others have let go.

The following is a message from Jeff Jones of Buckner Orphan Care International. They are in need of volunteers to help sort through donated shoes. Thanks Neal Knighton for telling us about this!

Greetings ya'll. I've add a new photo album with pictures from First Fest. Also, here's a link to the Tanglewood 2003 retreat video I made; I've been meaning to post that for quite a while, sorry.

Psalm 51:10 is a prayer that I have been frequently praying for myself. I've found that this prayer has been a key to a momentum turn in my own life. It says: "Create in me a clean heart, Oh God: and renew a right spirit within me." There is a supernatural confidence, expectancy and peace that comes when we have a clean heart and a right spirit before the father.

On Saturday, November 1 our church is going to reach out and help our inner-city mission church with unfinished products. The sites include Conerstone, El Pueblo, Ebenezer and Tyler Street. Most of the tasks will involve painting of rooms, iron stairways, outside structures, etc. When I participated in this two years ago we also helped tear out old carpet, haul old junk out to the curb for the garbage collectors, and help church garage sale patrons take home a refrigerator.
We'll meet in the FBCR parking lot at 8:30 on Saturday and carpool to the various sites. Lunch will be provided at all locations and work will wrap up around 2 or 2:30 at the latest.
You can email karenpitts@fbcr.org or call 972-235-5296 to sign up. See you Saturday!

You don't have to come out of the Spirit realm. The same closeness, strength, joy and direction you experience on Sunday, God intends for you to walk in the rest of the week. The devil is waiting to ambush you as you leave church. He wants to bring to your mind thoughts of fear, doubt, unbelief, and destruction.

Jesus never taught men how to make a living. He taught men how to live. "God doesn't call us to be successful. He calls us to be faithful," said Albert Hubbard. Most people have their eye on the wrong goal. Is more money, a higher position or more influence your goal? These are not true goals, but rather simply by-products of goals.
